22nd September 2019 - The Next Two Years

I can’t believe I’ve been living in Australia for 3 months and this is the first time I’ve been to the beach. I’ve been meaning to get over to the coast for ages but I just seem to always be too busy. But that’s a good thing, the whole point of coming here was to get my life moving again. And, to be fair, I did arrive in winter, and even though that doesn’t mean quite the same thing that it does in my home country, it’s still not the best time of year for paddling. Now that it’s starting to feel a bit more like summer I decided to drag myself away from the coding that I seem to be spending all my free time doing at the moment and visit my favourite ocean for the first time since I was last in Australia just before Christmas.

17th June 2019 - The Last Two Years

The night before The Last Jedi came out, I passed out and slept in a bath in a hotel room somewhere in Australia. I’m not going to go into detail about how exactly I spent that evening because it’s not a pleasant story, but I will say that I was surprised when I woke up the next morning and realised I hadn’t choked on my own vomit. With hindsight, that night was the start of the huge breakdown that I suffered with for most of last year. In the six months leading up to that point, I had been in a situation that I had always wanted to avoid, and I had finally cracked under the pressure of all the drama and the games and the bullshit that I’d been subjected to during that time. I’m not going to go into too much detail about that either because the way the whole experience made me feel was even more unpleasant than the hotel bath incident. I told the person who had been putting that pressure on me that it was their fault that I got into that state and at the time I felt bad for saying that. But now I can see that it was about the only time I actually tried to stand up for myself during that whole period of my life. I was just being honest.

17th February 2019 - #COGMONKEY2019

I've been putting a lot of effort into YouTube recently and ending my videos with a link to the very website you're viewing right now. Why? Because the homepage contains links to my Twitter, my other YouTube channel, the websites I run and a few other things, and it's easier to just advertise this website than to list all of that stuff individually. But the first thing anyone who has visited this site recently has seen is a big notice about a webcomic being "on hiatus (NOT cancelled!!)" and a cartoon about a chicken that's almost two years old. COGMONKEY.COM has not been updated for quite some time, so I decided to post something. I've renamed the "Info & News" page to "Blogmonkey" so I can justify writing stuff on here that's not just about updates to the website. By explaining that, I guess this is about an update to the website, but I would like to share a bit about what's going on in my life at the moment too.

9th April 2018 - Site reorganised and other updates

I've made a few changes to the site, just in time for comic #100. Most notably, I've completely redesigned the homepage. The sidebar is gone because sidebars are stupid and I had separate blocks of code for the desktop and mobile versions that I had to update every day, which was annoying. Forget the sidebar, you can now read the latest comic directly from the homepage and that will be updated every day. I've also stripped away all of the introductory blurb and the news section and moved it all to a separate page, which is where you are right now. I've reduced all of that to a single link to the latest news post, so for anyone who's interested in what I have to say you can still easily tell if I've posted something recently, and for everyone else that's a whole lot of clutter wiped away. Basically the homepage is now more focused on what I'm actually making rather than the boring stuff like who I am. The comics index page has also had a few tweaks since I opened the site - it now has a progress bar showing how far I've gotten with the project (I think it's also a nice easy way to show that this is a "one comic per day for a year" situation for anyone who doesn't want to read all the background information) and just yesterday I added a way to quickly skip to the start of each chapter, in line with the way I have things set up over on ComicFury (only two chapters so far but there will be more!).

2nd February 2018 - Mobile version

I realised that this website was pretty annoying to view on a phone so I've made a mobile version which was actually much easier than I thought it would be so I should have done this before I opened the site. I mean I probably missed something important so it might be horrible on your phone, but it works on mine so I'm happy with it. It's not 100% done yet, the comic archive page is a bit messy but actually reading the comics is much nicer now which I think is more important.

1st February 2018 - Site launch

It's official, the official Cogmonkey website,, is officially open! It would have been neater if I had opened this site on 1st January instead but it pretty much would have just been a few cartoons about a baby chicken. At least now there's a month's worth of comics which is slightly further from zero content than it would have been. Hopefully there will be a lot more stuff on here in the future and this place doesn't just wither and die like every other personal website I've ever made. I'm pretty optimistic about it. This little news post is really just an excuse to have a news section, I will probably never even update this ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
